Six months is a long time at any rate, but on the other hand it seems that time has a funny way of moving quicker as the year progresses. I have now been living at a school in Denmark for just over four months (with two months to go), and to be honest the last month has been a bit flat and sometimes it's hard to keep motivation. When you live and work in the same place, see the same people day in and day out, and are quite secluded from everything, it can be tough. There is no real separation from your working life and your home life, and you feel so far away from the rest of the world.
Just last week I took a short one week holiday to London (my second home) for a much needed and long overdue break. To completely disconnect from everything felt amazing. I didn't have a care in the world for one whole week, and I caught up with some of my most favourite people in the world. I could not have asked for more.
Coming back to Denmark and the school that I live and work in was completely strange. From the hustle and bustle of a busy and crowded city, to green fields, windmills and quiet roads - not much made sense to me. But, after a day it felt familiar again, and knowing that there are many things happening over the next two months that is going to make time pass quickly, indeed, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel that is Malawi.
I have been in contact with other Development Instructors that are over there now. One at the Teacher Training College that I will be going to (Amalika), and the other from Chilangoma, the first Teacher Training College in Malawi. Everything sounds really great over there and the common message is to hang in there in Denmark because it's worth it when you get to Africa.
I am incredibly excited about visiting my favourite continent again. I will be there for Summer again and it's going to be great. But for now, I am going to enjoy the Summer in Denmark. We have been lucky with some sun (not all the time but enough), and the days are long with only about 4 hours of darkness! It means there is plenty of time for everything!
